The new economics AS and A-Level syllabus
The new AS and A-level syllabus was introduced in September 2015. Our tutors teach all aspects of this new syllabus, and are aware of the differences and similarities between all available exam boards, including AQA, OCR and Edexcel. We also teach the old specification for students who began their AS and A-level economics course before September 2015.
The new AS and A-level economics course requires students to apply and evaluate different economic theories, concepts, models and methods. They must understand how competitive markets work. They study the labour market, the financial sector, global context, policy instruments, micro-economic and macro-economic market models and aggregate demand and aggregate supply. Students are encouraged to think critically about different market models and to identify any assumptions that are made. They should understand that all economic models have their own limits, and be able to identify and explain these limitations. A study of current economic issues is also an important part of the course. Mathematics and data is one of the things which students find most challenging about the economics AS and A-level course, and it is an important part of the new specifications. Due to the personalised nature of private tuition, your tutor can spend extra time on the maths needed for the economics AS and A-Level course that is not always possible in the classroom.
