English Language AS and A-level tuition

Our English Language tutors are available in all areas of London for students of all abilities.
A thorough grasp of the complexities of the English language is a vital skill, which prepares students well for a variety of prestigious university courses, especially arts and humanities degrees. All of our English Language tutors can provide help with every aspect of your English Language AS and A-level course, including phonetics and phonology, grammar, lexis and semantics, discourse, close-reading, and the contextual aspects of language, such as historical, geographical and social contexts. Our tutors are aware of the specifications for all available exam boards, including AQA, OCR and WJEC. We provide tuition for the new AS and A-level syllabus, introduced in September 2015, as well as for the old specification, for students who started their A-level course before 2015.

Whether you are looking for a short-term crash course to prepare for upcoming AS and A-level exams or for more long-term tuition, our English Language AS and A-level tutors can provide the extra support you need. All of our tutors are available during the holidays as well as during term time. We make sure that all of our available English Language tutors work after-school hours, so that tuition can take place at the most convenient time for you.

Tuition for the new AS and A-level English Language syllabus

As well as the pre-2015 specification, our tutors are all well versed in the new AS and A-level English Language specification for all of the available exam boards.

Since the new AS and A-level specifications were introduced in September 2015, students may no longer resit examinations, and AS level exams no longer count towards their final result. This means that the final English Language A-level examinations, which are taken at the end of the two-year course, hold more weight than they ever did before. This knowledge can be incredibly stressful for young A-level students, and our tutors are here to provide extra support and encouragement, so that students can perform at their best on the day. We also help with coursework and essays throughout the two-year course to ensure that you are producing the best work possible.

The new English Language AS and A-level specification requires students to show a thorough knowledge and understanding of grammar, morphology, phonetics, phonology, prosodics, lexis, semantics, pragmatics and discourse. They are encouraged to study language in relation to its different historical, geographical and social contexts. The course is designed to help students to think critically and to explain their thoughts articulately and accurately. There is plenty of room for creativity in the new English Language AS and A-level syllabus, and our tutors encourage this, whilst helping our students to express their findings using an appropriate range of terminology and accurate references to source texts. Our tutors will help you with all aspect of this syllabus. We adapt our lessons to the individual needs of our students, and will focus on the areas you find most challenging, in order to see a fast improvement.
