My Experience

I have an unbroken track record at 11+. Numerous former students have won places at schools such as Eton, Harrow, Winchester, City of London, St. Paul’s and Highgate. I teach English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and prepare students for adaptive pre-tests. I also provide interview coaching to help the student present themselves in the best possible light.

I specialise in the Humanities at 13+ Scholarship, Common Entrance and Winchester Entrance. I teach the full range of humanities subjects: English, History, Geography, Religious Studies and General Papers. I have prepared students for the Eton King’s Scholarship, Winchester Scholarship, Harrow Scholarship, Radley Scholarship and Winchester Entrance. This year a former student won a scholarship to Winchester.

I also have a great deal of experience in the CIE IGCSE English Language and Literature papers. I have taught these papers for many years and all previous students have received either an A* or an A.

My Approach to Private Tuition

I am a mentor as much as a tutor. I not only ensure that the student is at the top of their game academically, but also that they have the encouragement and confidence required to help them reach their goals.

I believe the aim of all good tutoring is self-sufficiency on the part of the student, and all my work is directed to this end. There is no greater satisfaction than watching a student take over as they near their exams. To get to this point I make sure that the student understands the work required to reach their goals, so that they feel that they are in charge of their own learning. I also show them how to learn, so that they understand not only what to improve but how they can improve it. Cracking this code leads to a self-motivated student who goes beyond what is expected of them.
