My Passion & How I Inspire

Mathematics and Physics in school can often seem dry and boring therefore, I take an engaging and enthusiastic approach to private tuition. I have a genuine passion for Mathematics and its’ applications in the real world; from understanding the movement of medicine in a body to creating match report statistics in sports as well as Physics being an application of Mathematics in itself. I use this to motivate tutees with their studies and create an enjoyment for the subjects.

I am a patient and personable tutor, as I believe it is important to create a relaxed as well as stimulating learning environment in order to build confidence in a subject and ultimately achieve the desired results. Building a good working relationship is also important and I adapt and tailor my approach based on the response from each individual student.

My Experience

I started my tutoring career in my final year of secondary school, where I would tutor Standard Grade level Mathematics (Scottish equivalent to GCSE-level). I continued tutoring whilst at University to include Higher-level Mathematics. Not only did I greatly improve the grades of my students but I also improved their confidence in their learning abilities.

Whilst at University I was offered the position of undergraduate teaching assistant. I conducted weekly tutorials for groups of students, this included: preparing tutorial material; marking students work; providing feedback and one-to-one tuition. Part of this role also included working in the Maths Skill Centre at the University of Strathclyde. The centre acted as a drop-in clinic for Mathematics students struggling with coursework or lecture material. Additionally, students from other departments, such as Engineering or Physics, struggling with the Mathematical element of their classes would use the centre. The role involved both one-to-one tutoring as well as a tutorial setup with a group of students needing help in the same area.
