I have been involved in teaching since 2007. At the beginning I was a Teaching Assistant in Universidad de Santiago de Chile, one of the top three national level universities. A couple of years later I started to work as a Lecturer in the same university and also in Universidad de las Américas, one of the biggest private universities in the country. In these universities, I have taught Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Introduction to Finance, and Accounting and Costs. In fact, during my PhD studies at UCL I still go back to Chile and give lectures on Statistics and Econometrics.
In addition to mathematics, another common factor among these subjects is the use of some software packages to solve practical problems. Therefore, I have taught classes using MATLAB, STATA, R, MS Access, SQL, and MS Excel. For example, I have worked as an Assistant in the workshop “Statistics with STATA” in the Institute of Neurology of University College London.
I also have experience in one-to-one education. My vast work experience in universities has given me the opportunity of helping people not only in groups, but also individually.

My Approach to Private Tuition
In contrast to lecturing to large groups of students, private tutoring has the great advantage of being much more flexible, adapting each next step to the specific needs of the student in a dynamic way. In addition to technical knowledge, paying special attention to the student’s interests and identifying the gap between actual understanding and expected knowledge must be considered as one of the main attributes of the tutor in order to develop tailor made teaching methodologies, finding the best mix of theory and practice, and reaching the expected learning outcomes.
I really enjoy the whole process of teaching, but the most valuable part is when I see my students reaching new levels of knowledge based on a solid understanding of what they have been taught. I know that achieving higher qualifications is great for any student, but when it happens together with attaining a deep understanding in areas of difficulty, it becomes truly self-rewarding.
I play the guitar and I love composing instrumental songs for my children. However, they still prefer “twinkle twinkle little star” and “row row row your boat”!
