My Passion & How I Inspire

Tutoring should be tailored to the needs of the student because all students are different. However, whilst my approach is flexible, there are 4 things which I always try to bring to my sessions. My approach is interactive – it is vital to be engaging. It is thorough, to make sure nothing is covered in too little detail – for example using spot vocab tests of 3 or 4 words we’ve recently learnt to reinforce them when doing languages. I encourage students to reach answers to complex questions themselves, steering them but encouraging independence of thought – this is particularly relevant to older students. Finally, I always emphasise trying to make it enjoyable. I’ve loved my subjects throughout my academic career and try to transfer this enjoyment to my students, because it is the best way to learn. Students approaching exams often feel a great deal of pressure which inhibits them. I help students combat this by building their knowledge and, just as importantly, their confidence.

My Experience

I have tutored 13-year-old students to entrance exams for Winchester College and Tonbridge School in French, English and History. I have also taught beginners Latin to 11-year-old students and worked on Oxbridge entry. Having sat the Pre-U exams myself as a pupil I can offer particular insight into this exam board. My previous experience includes working for the an Educational Trust in South-West France in a role which involved sports coaching, pastoral care and classroom teaching. My fluency in the modern languages I tutor has been built up to professional level through working in business services in Paris in 2015.
