My approach is to first identify my tutees’ goals, should it be to pass a certain exam, or to achieve a certain level of understanding. In order to achieve these goals, I like to set mini deadlines along the way so that my tutee and I constantly have something to work towards. Of course, no tutee is the same, with different learning methods and needs, and so by identifying areas of difficulty and development at the outset, each tutoring session will be adapted accordingly so that I can work efficiently with my tutee. At the end of each tutoring session, I want to ensure that progress has been made by recapping what has been learnt and what is still to be learnt. To this end, I want my tutees to feel comfortable learning with me – I am not a strict or scary teacher! Should they have any concerns, I want them to feel that they can talk to me.
