My Experience

In June 2019 I graduated with a 1st in History from Cambridge University. During my studies, I worked as a private tutor. I have taught Economics to A-Level (Edexcel and AQA), History to GCSE, A-Level and Undergraduate (OCR, Edexcel and AQA) students as well as Spanish to GCSE (AQA) students and below. I also have extensive experience tutoring key 11+ and 13+ subjects English and Maths.

More broadly I have a lot of experience tutoring those looking to sit entrance exams at the 11+, 13+ and UCAS level. I recently aided a boy with an application to Brighton College at the 11+ stage and two years ago aided a successful Cambridge University applicant. I am particularly familiar with both these processes and am helped by having siblings who are going through the tests this year.

My Passion And How I Inspire

Making complex topics accessible to all ability ranges inspires me to teach. I always endeavour to explain concepts in the most uncomplicated manner possible, in ways that resonate with students. I have had very positive results from this approach in the past, especially from students who feel alienated from dry and overly complicated textbooks and teachers who do little more than read material off a computer screen. With this approach, I feel I have a tutoring style that can be personalised to each and every student that I work with. I have received a lot of positive feedback in this regard on my First Tutors public profile with one example from Gabby Banwait explaining how ‘Louie was able to resonate with my nephew and understand his strengths and weaknesses’.

I believe this personal tailoring is what sets me apart from other tutors. There are plenty of capable tutors but my opinion is that those who make a genuine difference to students are those who understand their tutees and appreciate that learning is about more than just information.
