My Passion & How I Inspire

I have a large experience tutoring physics and maths and enjoy delving into the roadblocks to learning. My experience in tutoring has shown that the early stages of tuition are generally focused on building up a discussion about the topic to show the student how much they actually know, in order to cement and clarify where to go next. Furthermore, I frequently find that students lack confidence and guess at an answer, rather than using the things that they know to pick the puzzle apart. As a result, exam technique and strategies form a core part of my focus. Of course this vastly improves grades but it is also a life skill in general.

My Experience

At the end of my master’s at Imperial College London, just before I commenced by PhD, I worked in a north London school for a month developing lessons on quantum mechanics and relativity which were adaptable for ages 11-17. Later, I extended these lessons into workshops which I ran across London, including giving a 'Feynman lecture' at Charterhouse School in Godalming and a Time Warp workshop for the Guildhall. During my PhD I gave seminars and led problem classes for the fourth year Quantum Information class, which received positive feedback and a strong set of grades at the end of the year. I also mentored undergraduates and masters students through coursework and dissertations, working closely with one to develop a new approach to quantum control theory, for which the student obtained a distinction. I also have a broad experience teaching pupils at GCSE, A-level, International Baccalaureate and degree level, both for maths and physics, specifically the AQA and Edexcel syllabuses. I worked closely with my PhD supervisor when he was an admissions tutor so I have first hand experience of university applications from the other side.
