My Passion & How I Inspire

Since joining medical school, I have gained a full appreciation of the stresses of rigorous academic study and I'm keen to pass on the techniques I've learned in the stimulating environment that UCL provides. Having had public/medical school exams every year since 2011 (and counting), I am well in the swing of the pressured environment presented by important exams. Understanding the challenges that a particular student faces therefore comes naturally to me, and I pride myself on my empathetic ability.

As a tutor I possess a very friendly and patient manner, as well as a strong set of interpersonal skills which have given me an ability to communicate clearly and supportively. These traits give me confidence in being able to form an effective working relationship with tutees. Having also performed to a high standard at both GCSE and A-level myself, I have valuable first-hand experience in these qualifications and know exactly what it takes to succeed.

My main approach is to really structure my sessions based on the best ability of the student, catering for however that individual best learns. I can thus ensure that my students are benefiting as much as possible from tailored and focused tuition. I have great belief in my tutoring techniques, which have delivered excellent results over the past two years.

My Experience

My specialist subjects are Biology, Chemistry and Maths. With a Tutors' Association corporate member agency, I have now logged over 150 hours as a private tutor. This has included ongoing work at A-level OCR Chemistry, as well as extensive UCAS preparation looking at BMAT, UKCAT and personal statement writing for medical school. Over the past year I worked with a student who received 3 offers for medicine from Imperial, UCL and Brighton & Sussex. Another year 12 student received support for both Biology (OCR) and Chemistry (AQA) from myself. My work has also covered intensive iGCSE Maths tuition to equip a student for sixth form boarding in Sweden, preparation for the 11+ with two different clients and revision courses.

At Leicester Grammar school, where I served as Head Boy, I achieved A-level grades of A* (Biology) and 2A's (Chemistry and Mathematics), and obtained 10A*s at GCSE (including French, History and Latin). Having completed one year of clinical training at UCL, I scored a merit in the 4th year examination series and have taken on a representative role feeding back to the medical school education board.
