Every student is an individual and has their own unique way of learning. It is one of the benefits of private tuition that I am able to tailor each of my lessons to the particulars strengths and weaknesses of a student. Each course of private tuition should be bespoke, whether a student needs to be pushed to excel, or needs their confidence to be built a little, I firmly believe it is the job of the private tutor to incorporate the student's individual needs into each of their lessons.
However, there are some general principles that I apply. Firstly, learning should be fun! I consider it my job to pass on all the enthusiasm that I have for the subjects that I teach to the students. Not only can this engender a lifelong love of the subject, it also makes the process of learning fun, which in turn leads to better results.
Secondly, I foster an informal atmosphere, encouraging students to ask questions. I find that this is the best way to show students exactly how much they are capable of without the pressure of the normal classroom environment.
Finally, I believe firmly in teaching proper exam technique. The process of learning is vital, but so is the result and I am entirely focused on helping each student perform to the maximum of their potential on the day of the exam.
I have extensive experience as a private tutor, having helped over 50 students from all over the world. I specialise in History and the Classics and have experience helping students of all ages and levels.
I have had success preparing younger students for the Common Entrance exams, both at 11+ and 13+. I have helped students successfully gain entry to schools such as Haberdashers' Aske's, Westminster and King's College School Wimbledon.
With older students, I have plenty of experience preparing students for GCSEs and A Levels. I am extremely well acquainted with all the different exam boards across the subjects that I teach. Alongside preparation for their A Level exams I have also successfully helped students with Oxbridge entrance exams and interview preparation.
As well as this, I have worked with students who were pursuing Latin and Classics outside of school, whether as an extra A Level or as a mature student. I have also helped students who were being homeschooled. Moreover, I have volunteered as a Latin teacher, allowing schools to offer Latin classes that would not normally be able to.
