Tutoring is all about relationships and getting to know my students. I will quickly unpick my students’ areas of weaknesses and work on these topics in fun and engaging ways to make sure progress is made. I love to use mini-whiteboards, props, videos, flash cards and lots of other resources to ensure that students understand the concepts deeply but also quickly. I also make sure I am goal specific and will often use my knowledge of exam boards to ensure that I maximize student’s marks.
I have a passion for education. My specialist areas are mathematics and physics. I gained my masters in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London and subsequently worked as an engineer. I know first hand how mathematics and physics are used in everyday life and enjoy using this knowledge and experience to enrich the learning process of my students.
I am now a fully qualified teacher currently working as the Head of Department at a leading academy in Inner London. I enjoy seeing students and teachers succeed and am passionate about students accessing maths in a fun and engaging way. Students at my school enjoy maths at all stages and abilities because the lessons my team deliver use a variety of activities to unpick student misconceptions and ensure they build confidence. As a result the students I teach and tutor do well, often surpassing their expected target. In addition to my 6 years of classroom teaching I have worked as a full time tutor for 11 years teaching mathematics and Physics at all levels and have experience with Edexcel, AQA and MEI OCR exam boards. I have worked with a variety of students: whether it be helping a young girl to understand basic mathematical concepts like column addition or helping a further mathematics a level student to understand proof by induction I enjoy breaking down concepts to their fundamental steps and seeing students succeed and grow in confidence. My students go on to succeed with some of my students going on to attend Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities or getting their much desired place at some of the best secondary schools in the country.
I have always been an academic and although I attended a fairly average comprehensive school achieved excellent grade at GCSE. I obtained 6 A*s, 4As and 1B for my GCSE, achieving the A*s in my core subjects as well as in ICT and graphic design. I then went on to study Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physic, English Literature and Music for my A levels, achieving 4As and a C. With these results I went on to gain my Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London. I am also a fully qualified Teacher and seasonal exam marker for Edexcel.
I once designed and made an electric car from scratch and raced it at Silverstone. I also really like tea.
