My Passion & How I Inspire

I have always been an avid reader and lover of language, and I formed a lasting interest in historical research whilst studying at university. As such, I communicate my subjects with passion and enthusiasm, encouraging students to formulate their own opinions and find subject enjoyment through debate, discussion and interactive activities. My creative background also allows me to vary the learning process dynamically to best suit student needs, as I utilise a wide range of activities to keep students focussed and engaged.

My Experience

From 2016-17, I taught as an EFL teacher at Jinan Foreign Language School, P.R. China. Here, I began to tutor students individually, helping with IELTS, TOEFL and entrance to English speaking universities such as Cambridge, Princeton and Hong Kong.

Since 2018 I have worked as a private tutor in London, teaching English and History to students from KS1-KS3 level. I have helped students prepare for 7+, 11+ and 13+, gaining them entrance to schools including Westminster, City of London, St Paul’s and Latymer. I also have extensive experience teaching IGCSE/ GCSE for the AQA, OCR, Edexcel and Cambridge exam boards, for which my students have consistently reached or exceeded targets.

Furthermore, I have taught EFL to students ranging from early years to adult learners, assisting with IELTS, TOEFL and the Cambridge English exams, as well as Business English. In the summer of 2019 I taught English with Oxford International and since September I have been teaching for the online Russian language school, Art of Learning.

My Reviews

"Samuel is a wonderfully enthusiastic English tutor, who is currently teaching my Year 11 daughter. He is careful to listen to what she needs help with and is engaging with the work he sets. Homework given is the prefect amount and my daughter happily complies, knowing that it will help her with her upcoming GCSEs. His feedback is very helpful and my daughter appreciates it. Furthermore, Samuel makes sure that my daughter is confident and comfortable with the topic, before moving on. I highly recommend Samuel as an English tutor and am very grateful for the help he has given so far." (GCSE English Literature/ Language) - Shifra

"Samuel was a wonderful help with our son. He gave him confidence in his own ability as well as recognising areas of confusion which he then sought about explaining clearly. Niko's grades improved greatly. Thank you" (13+ History Common Entrance) - Nadya

"First of all, I would like to say that his guidance has played an key role in shutian's good performance in the CE exam, which leads Shutian to the Westminster School with an excellent mark on his English. Although the time was only two months, he has given Shutian indispensable knowledge and enough confidence to face the exam. His patience, passion and experience teaching in China helped him maintain a high professional standard of teaching." (13+ English Common Entrance) - Fangxiao
