My aim is always to make English - at whatever level - easy, understandable and fun. I break all topics down into readily digestible sections so that solid knowledge and skills are developed. I take a similar approach to teaching exam technique and aim to give every student confidence and clarity in tackling exam questions of all types. My teaching is heavily backed with handout resources (which can be made available electronically) so that a student can thoroughly consolidate and review what is covered during the tutorial time. I am equally comfortable teaching literature or language and have tried and tested resources and materials on difficult areas such as creative writing. I try to be as flexible as I can in my teaching and will always adapt my approach to the individual. Finally, I very much enjoy what I do and make it my goal to ensure success for every student I teach.
I am an Oxford English graduate and have been teaching English full time since 2001. I have wide experience of teaching at GCSE and A-level and have been Head of Department at both a large Sixth Form college and at a top performing independent school for girls. I am have taught across several different exam boards and specifications including AQA at GCSE and Edexcel, Eduqas and AQA at A level. I have taught and led all three A-Level English subject areas (English Literature, English Language and the combined English Language and Literature course). As Head of Department at secondary level I have also taught across the Key Stage 3 curriculum between years 7 - 9.
I am currently a Head of Sixth Form and so spend a lot of time supporting candidates with Oxbridge and other competitive university applications, both in English and other subject disciplines.
I have significant experience as an examiner and have examined iGCSE and A-level. I am currently a member of the examining team for Edexcel English Language A-level.
I have always achieved high grades for almost all of my students and am hugely proud of my examination record.
