I don’t have one particular method of teaching since every student is different. Some students have a more visual understanding of how things work, some students prefer a more numerical approach. I love working out how a student thinks, and using that to tailor my teaching to them. Hence the actual explaining of concepts can vary from person to person, but it will usually involve finding the cause of people’s misunderstandings. This might mean going back several years to clear up something they never quite got their heads around. Once you’ve gone back and fixed all the cracks it’s much easier to move forwards.

Marcus found Rob's sessions hugely beneficial; they were thorough, engaging, and tailored specifically to Marcus' needs. He felt more confident in all areas of Maths and went on to study at Queens' College, Cambridge.
Rob taught my daughter Alice Alphonse in the lead up to her iGCSE Maths Exams this summer (AQA Board).
He was a first class tutor and without doubt helped her achieve an A* Grade in the exams. He was approachable, very knowledgeable and had excellent strategies to help Alice unlock the more difficult aspects of the course. He had done his homework extensively before he arrived for the first session and came armed with papers and ideas so that time was not wasted. Importantly, he had thought about where the tricky bits of the exam paper might be and where there was opportunity to gain the all-important extra marks.
Alice felt she was able to ask him any question and he never became impatient or dismissive. It was a very collaborative experience for her, which boosted her confidence hugely. We felt she came out of the sessions with new self-belief, as well as strategies to cope with areas that she had previously found difficult. She now has gone on to study Maths for A level and I know she would say that Rob was partly responsible for enabling her to do this.
Rob was always impeccable with his timing, tremendously courteous and very friendly. He is a lovely person who is very genuine and clearly cares about doing his very best. We have already recommended him to friends of ours to help their children with maths and their feedback mirrors everything I have written above.
I have no hesitation in recommending Rob as a maths tutor and would be happy to talk to anyone who is considering working with him.
Rob came to tutor my son Tom for GCSE maths, which he is due to take in a few months. Rob spent 2 hours with Tom and was patient, thoughtful and extremely clear in his explanations. He also appreciates there are different learning styles and different approaches to problems and solutions. Tom struck up a good rapport with Rob and found the session extremely useful. He now feels confident about subjects which were previously somewhat shaky. We will certainly have Rob back for a refresher before the exam.
Hi Rob
Just wanted to let you know that Josh got an A* in his Math's paper - he is thrilled but mainly shocked. Maths could never be described as his favourite subject and based on past results and attitude, an A* was not something he ever dreamed possible. So the result must come down to your excellent tuition and delivery of the subject.
I’m also an actor, and have appeared in Peep Show and Fresh Meat!
