My approach to tuition is always goal-oriented. It is very important to identify the target the my client wants to meet. This could be succeeding in a university interview, preparing for an exam, or wanting to go up a grade for GCSE or A Level. To be a successful student of academic music at any level, a pupil has to get to grips with a lot of different concepts – harmony, counterpoint, analysis, composition, performance, aural skills and so on. I can offer expert tuition in all of these areas, and will tailor the content of lessons according to which area needs the most attention. I have a good knowledge of what exam boards and universities are looking for from music students, and I will use this expertise to help my pupils achieve those goals.
I am a professional oboist and composer living in London. My performance career has taken me round the world, and I have played principal oboe in many of the world's leading orchestras. I am also an expert tutor in academic music and music theory. I have helped pupils to win places at Oxbridge to study music, and exceed their predicted grades by as many as three for GCSE and A Level. When at Cambridge, for my final exams, I gained the top mark for music over the entire university for that year.
