My Passion & How I Inspire

I make use of the person centered approach whilst tutoring by creating a student's a tailored tuition plan that meets an individual's need. I nurture students to become enthusiastic, confident learners gaining access to higher education and also completing degrees. As a tutor I utilise diverse teaching methods and strategies to espouse enthusiasm, determination and open mindedness; ensuring that learning is relevant, enjoyable and a journey of discovery. I focus on supporting student’s skills and needs for transition, literacy, numeracy, research, theoretical knowledge and skill development.

I actualise differentiation with a range of questioning techniques such as open ended higher order questions as opposed to lower order closed questions. One of my favourite differentiation techniques has been the use of Bloom’s taxonomy during lessons to enable progress by supporting students to demonstrate practical knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation techniques. Evidence of my skills and abilities to use a wide range of teaching strategies consistently have been reflected in all my teaching observation records whilst working at University Center of Croydon as I received a grade 1 'outstanding'.

I enjoy writing and marking assessments in line with the awarding body in order to provide students with formative assessments.

Ongoing formative assessment is a key focus to ensure value is being added to the progress of learners. I have a huge passion and commitment with providing equal opportunities to all learners.

My Experience

In my current and past roles, I have extensive experience with teaching A-Level Psychology, A-Level and BTEC (level 2 &3) Health and Social Care, Sociological perspectives and BA Public Health and Social Care.

I have also previously supported undergraduate students to complete their dissertation and research projects.

The years of working within the educational sector such as Christ The King 6th Form College and University Center of Croydon (Teaching a Sussex validated degree) has provided the opportunity to deliver a range of courses from various examining boards. This involved working with students prepare for the AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards. My years of teaching coupled with previous psychiatric mental health work experience has created a degree of professionalism when working with students to raise their educational attainment.

I have also worked closely on a one to one basis with students with a range of abilities to maximise their full educational potential and assist with overcoming barriers that acts as an obstruction to learning. I have grappled with the challenges of meeting needs and adjusting to preferences of a wide variety of people with differing aptitudes. Working at Guys Hospital (mental health unit) and Cambian Group (mental health hospital) has been invaluable in teaching as it has enabled me to empathise and support students that are diagnosed with mental health disorders, SEN/disabilities and other emotional difficulties.

I cherish taking part in fundraising events and worked voluntarily for the charity 'The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust'. I am part of a team called 'Green light' who provides minimal invasive medical care and a signposting service to the city of London rough sleepers.
