I tailor my lessons to the level and needs of each individual I tutor, which I gauge and adapt to very quickly. I am firm but not strict – I like to put students at ease and make the lesson entertaining as well as instructive. With students often being exhausted after a school day and overloaded with homework, I don’t find it useful to adopt too rigorous an approach. I find things are more easily taught and learnt in a relaxed and fun-loving environment. I like to get to know my students and find out what interests them, so that I can source teachings materials according to both their needs and interests.
I am very personable and patient – I think one has to be when teaching as beautiful and complicated a language as French! I have a thorough understanding of French grammar and can explain rules in detail with the help of examples and exercises.
As both a writer and an actor, I place a lot of emphasis on fluency and style in both written and oral expression, and I always strive to communicate my love of language. I give equal importance to all features of language – grammar, syntax, punctuation, pronunciation and vocabulary. I often find that a number are neglected in the classroom, evidently because of lack of time, which is why and where I come in!
Over the past two and a half years, I have tutored French to a wide range of clients, from as young as 5 years old to adult age.
I have successful experience tutoring French at GCSC, AS and A-Levels.
I also have teaching experience dating from my student years in ZĂĽrich, where I tutored both French and English to private individuals and adults at various companies.
I have a Master of Arts (with Distinction) in English, French and Comparative Literature from the University of ZĂĽrich as well as a Masters of Arts (with Merit) from The Drama Centre, University of the Arts London.
I also have a French baccalaureate (with Merit) in Economics and Sociology from the Lycée Français de Zürich
I passed the Intermediate Level Examination in German Language at the Goethe Institute in Mannheim
“I would highly recommend Nadia as a tutor for her outstanding ability to teach and share her passion, understanding nature and professional approach to her work.” (Alex Uzun)
I am what you call a ”Third Culture Kid”: I am Swiss German, French and Russian, but I grew up all over Asia attending English and American International Schools! So although my mother tongue is French, I speak English with an American accent and although I am Swiss German, I speak German with a French accent!
