My Passion & How I Inspire

I feel like my relaxed approach to content which is explained with real life examples allows for anyone I am working with to feel confident and involved in the learning process. It is important to be able relate learning to a purpose or use, as a means of finding a relevance and being able to discover what it is that interests my tutees about a particular subject.

I like to break concepts and theories down into the simplest forms, preventing alienation from specific topics or subject areas. In doing so, students can gain a confidence in which they are eventually able to assuredly talk through and explain what is happening, why we are doing it, what the results are and what this tells us. Science and Mathematics are the building blocks of the world around us and so it is important for my tutees to be able to relate their learning to this confidently.

This confidence is vital in the examination environment and this is why I like to focus my teaching heavily around they type of exam which is being prepared for. Having experience in several different types of exams including written, oral, aural and practical, I have developed a wide range of study techniques which can be tailored to an individual’s needs. This involves time management, question analysis and becoming familiar with the layout of the exam itself. These are lifelong examination skills which can be developed and furthered both in and outside of the exam. An exam should be a chance for someone to display effectively and clearly what they have learned and understood, not something to be feared.

My Experience

Over the last three years I have gained a wide range of experience tutoring Chemistry, Physics and Maths across all levels up to and including GCSE/IGCSE (for AQA and Edexcel specifically). I have helped students achieve top grades in these subjects at IGCSE/GCSE level and also in Common Entrance examinations (this includes pre-GCSE Biology).

I also have experience with school specific Maths and Science syllabus’, teaching students how to consolidate the material into their own notes which they find understandable and are able to revise from.

I also had the chance to act as a Year 7 class councilor in which I went through practice questions from classes and past exams in both science and maths. This was carried out in both a group and one to one environment. Furthermore, I took this chance to create and deliver presentations on essential study skills which focused on utilising time spent studying in the most effective way possible.

My Video Introduction

Fun fact

In 2012 I competed in the Olympic Stadium for the UK School Games. For my 400m hurdle race I ran in the same lane in which Usain Bolt went on to break the Olympic record in for the Men’s 100m later that year!
