It is my firm belief that a teaching relationship is a partnership between tutor and student. If either end of the partnership is disengaged, it is futile to expect meaningful progress. My aim with any student is to quickly establish a working relationship, understand what they want to achieve from the process, and set reasonable goals to drive this. Naturally, for school age students, the partnership also includes the parents or guardians, and I strive to include their expectations into discussion with the student.
I have been teaching privately for several years, initially starting out as a piano teacher and maths tutor. Since then, I have tutored many students across a range of subjects, including maths, sciences (with an emphasis on biology and chemistry at higher levels) and English for 11+ and 13+ school entrance tests. Exam boards I have prepared students for include AQA and Edexcel, and I have experience with IGCSE both for sciences and maths. I have helped students to prepare for entry to competitive schools including Highgate, UCS, Wetherby Senior School and The Latymer School. I have also assisted students of Russian in preparing for their spoken exams for at GCSE and AS levels.
I have experience mock interviewing candidates for medicine and allied subjects, and have also assisted students in reviewing personal statements, and have previously done so in a school setting.
Music is one of my passions, and I have taken great pleasure in teaching the piano to a number of students over the last few years. I tend to teach up to an ABRSM Grade 6 level, and have experience preparing and submitting students for examinations. My focus tends to be on technical work and development through traditional repertoire.
I attended The Latymer School, Edmonton, where I was a Senior Pupil in my last year. I completed A-levels in biology, chemistry and maths, gaining A*AA respectively, and an A in AS-level Latin. I then went on to UCL Medical School, where I have been studying since 2013. In 2016 I received a first class honours BSc in Medical Sciences with Orthopaedic Science, for pre-clinical medicine and a research year spent at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. For this, I was awarded the Scales Prize for the IBSc in Orthopaedics, added to the Dean’s List, and nominated for the Dean’s Research Prize. I passed the examinations for Years 1, 2, 4 and 5 of medical school with merit.
I have completed ABRSM grades in piano, viola and music theory, and sing classically to a high standard under the tutelage of Robert Rice. I am an experienced musician in various settings, focusing primarily on choral work.
I am a native Russian speaker.
In my spare time, I lead a Cub Scout Pack in Hertfordshire, and don’t often pass up an opportunity to go hiking away from the lights and sounds of London!
