My Passion & How I Inspire

I believe that in order to succeed in (and, more importantly, enjoy) the study of History or English, it’s important to appreciate several core themes and avoid turning a question into a daunting memory exercise for dates and events.

My approach is to help students develop their ability to deconstruct a question and understand which key areas an examiner wants to see addressed. Fundamentally, I believe it is important to focus on essay structure and planning, as focusing on these elements is necessary for any answer and will help develop confidence in the long run.

Alongside developing essay writing and style, I bring my love and enthusiasm for these subjects to lessons. My personal school experience was that teaching within schools can be dry and overly detail-oriented. To gain an understanding and appreciation for a topic, it is often important to contextualise themes and engage in an open and thought provoking discussion on relevant subject matter.

Whilst tutoring, I seek to maintain an informal and friendly atmosphere and to tailor my lessons to the specific requirements and weaknesses of the student.

My Experience

I am currently studying at UCL for my History MA. Prior to this I studied History at Cambridge University where I was President of our college history society which involved liaising with globally renowned scholars to organise talks for the student body.

I have completed a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification in Buenos Aires and spent 6 months teaching English in the city. I taught English to children aged 6-12 years and tutored adults in business English in one on one sessions.

The following year I spent time volunteering in South Africa as part of a community outreach program, where I spent time tutoring 14-18 year olds in History and English in a local township.
