My Passion & How I Inspire

In January 2019 I left my position as lead in French at the Jessop/Stockwell Federation (an Outstanding London Primary group) in order to pursue my passion for literature and writing. I am now undertaking a Masters in Poetry from the prestigious creative writing institute at the University of East Anglia. As a develop as a writer, rather than give up my enjoyment as a teacher, I have chosen to continue working as a private tutor. I found it a joy and a privilege to support learners to grow and flourish personally and academically, and look forward to performing this rewarding and exciting role as I plan and undertake every lesson.

My Experience

I attended the Elizabethan High School, where I achieved all A's at A level, in Biology, French, English and AS level Drama and Spanish. I graduated in 2016 from the University of Cambridge with a BA French and Arabic. While at Cambridge I received a thorough linguistic, literary and philosophical grounding in both Arabic and French, writing weekly essays and producing a dissertation which was awarded a first. I studied Arabic and French at University, and have also studied Spanish and German. I am interested in the way we live our lives in different languages, the narratives that shape our experience, the stories that we tell and that are who we are. Motivated by my continued joy in language learning and literature, I qualified as a teacher. I graduated from a PGCE languages at UCL Institute of Education in June 2018 (the UK’s highest ranking teacher training programme). I have been worked in schools across London, both secondary and primary. At UCL my PGCE project focussed on how the emotional response induced by music and literature can enhance learning in the modern languages classroom. I have been especially interested in the way our development is effected by emotion and identification. I am therefore interested in improving the relationship to the subject that my students have as much as thoroughly covering syllabus material. This comes through adapting to their personality and broadening their perspectives on the purposes and outcomes of their learning. In my experience, this is a major key to unlocking stunted progress
