In most cases, by the time private tuition is sought, a student has realized they may be behind in a subject.Ā This tends to cause feelings of anxiety, intimidation, and embarrassment.Ā These feelings can often become more of a barrier to learning a subject than the actual content.Ā My job as tutor is two-fold: to diagnose where this disconnect, or missing cog in the wheel is, and to alleviate the negative feelings associated with the subject.Ā The result of addressing these two issues is confidence.Ā There is nothing more rewarding than starting lessons with a studentĀ who may be completely terrified of a subject or test, and moving towards feelings of empowerment and command of the subject.Ā The most important qualities I possess for this process are patience, understanding, and a passion for finding the most effective, unique way that an idea must be explained to each individual learner.Ā Cultivating a strong, communicative relationship with the studentās parents is also paramount as we work towards the same goal.
I have two years teaching experience for a prestigious test preparation institution in Los Angeles, CA. This position included classroom teaching and private tuition. Subjects covered in the SAT include: Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Maths. I also have experience preparing students for the ACT. These tests can be quite intimidating, and are specifically designed to be deceptive. I am an expert at guiding the student through these pitfalls.
