My Passion & How I Inspire

Having academic interests in social, educational, and positive psychology, I aspire to create a distinct relationship with each of the students that I tutor. I firmly believe that every student is unique and can greatly benefit from an individualised approach of teaching and learning. I pride myself on using my communication skills and research interests to help my students achieve their specific goals.

While my title reads “Tutor,” I am proud to call myself a student of educational pedagogy. In my time off, I constantly travel to classrooms around the world where I strive to speak with as many teachers and students as possible. Building upon Vygotsky’s theory of social learning, I am able to amalgamate my different experiences to provide truly unique interactions with my students.

Since beginning my tutoring career, I have come to strongly integrate technology in my classroom. In studying of education, I firmly believe that the future of education revolves around technology, and I feel a strong teacher is one who can facilitate technology in the classroom. My future students can expect lessons not only in course material, but also in various Apps for Education. Thus far, students who have embraced my use of technology in the classroom have shown the biggest improvements on their A–Level marks.

My Experience

I am currently in my third year of full time tutoring. My passion for teaching began during my undergraduate degree where I was a teaching assistant in six unique classes over my four years of university. Since that time, I have taken a position at a tutorial college in Oxford where I run the Psychology Department. Alongside Psychology, I work with EFL students to prepare them for their IELTS exams, both general and academic levels. I have also worked with students on both A Level and GCSE Physical Education. In addition, I have worked with other London tutoring agencies where I have focused on online tuition of not only Psychology and EFL, but also 11+/13+ Maths and English. In my first two years of tutoring professionally, I have taken part in approximately 1000 hours of one on one or small group tuition. When I am not tutoring during the academic year, I spend my summers teaching Psychology at some of Oxford’s most prestigious summer programmes.

Alongside my tutoring responsibilities, I am the Head Men’s Rowing Coach at an Oxford University College.

Fun fact

One of the best memories of my life was rowing for Oxford in the 2014 Boat Race. Before that, I had rowed for the United States National team on two occasions and for Cornell University. Now that I have retired, my new passion is traveling. Thus far, I have visited 33 countries!
