Effective learning arises in situations where strong trust, collaborative communication, aspirational expectations, and increasing self-efficacy are established. These core values underpin my professional approach to tuition, and promote the progression towards higher outcome goals.
I facilitate effective learning by providing: hands-on mastery experiences that challenge current knowledge and facilitate progress; effective modelling to demonstrate performance expectations; formative feedback to support the learning cycle, and self-esteem; and psychological arousal by providing intrinsically motivating, bespoke materials.
I strongly believe that learning arises not just from representations of conceptual material but from critical questioning as learners engage with new, exciting, and unfamiliar material. I strongly advocate an environment in which the learner is analysing and critically evaluating new material within, and without, the contexts within which they are presented: Not only should learning relate to specific subjects and examinations, but also to real-world application with reference to the ‘bigger picture’.
Teaching English Language, English Literature, and Mathematics at secondary school then committing to private tuition as a full-time profession, illustrates the excellence in experience I can assuredly offer as a private tutor.
My experience as a classroom teacher allowed me to develop my teaching style to a range of emergent needs: Ensuring the best possible outcome for an individual based on their ability to learn underpins the very nature of my approach.
My experience as a private tutor allowed me to develop my knowledge in teaching to a range of ages, objectives, and examinations. I can competently teach to any age in an engaging, exciting and progressive way. I strongly believe in the setting of aspirational objectives with the aim of providing the steps, guidance, and scaffolding required to reach them. I have extensive experience teaching to the following GCSE examination boards: AQA, Edexcel, IGCSE, OCR; the following ISEB Common Entrance Exam age-groups: 7+, 10+, 11+, and 13+; and, because some school’s entry requirements vary slightly, I have had successful experience in enabling students to access the following prestigious schools: Alleyn’s, Brighton College, City of London, Emmanuel, Highgate King’s College, Lancing College, St. George’s, and Tonbridge.
My substantial and well-balanced experience in education ensures the facilitation of tuition designed to meet the needs of the individual, meet the aspirational targets they are striving toward, and meet and exceed the criteria for success in exams.
I attended Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Kent, achieving 11 GCSEs at A*-C grade. I then attended Queen Elizabeth’s Sixth Form College in Kent, achieving 3 A-levels in English Language, Mathematics, and Computing Systems. I enrolled at Queen Mary, University of London, reading English Language and Linguistics. I graduated in 2012 with a First Class Honours Degree. In 2013, I enrolled on the highly prestigious TeachFirst Leadership Programme wherein I obtained a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) (2014), Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (2015), and a Masters Degree in Transformational Leadership within Education (2016) – specifically relating to tutor effectiveness in one-to-one private tuition.
“[We] are really pleased with progress so far, your input has made a big difference and I would go as far as saying that [he] has achieved as much in the past month as he did in the previous six.”
I perform poetry in front of people!
