My personal approach to tuition varies by subject and student, although there are some common themes. My tuition will largely work around perfecting the basic concepts of the subjects I am teaching, and then working to see how far these concepts can be applied, and where they break down. Then, I will normally work with a student to apply these directly to the course a student is studying and will specifically tailor this by exam board and any areas in which the student wishes to focus more on. I try to work primarily through discussion in my sessions in order to firm up an understanding of an idea, and then follow this up with some set work to continue with outside of a session and then discus together in the next session.
I’ve helped several students through the process of applying to Oxford with both History, the Ancient history aspect of Classics, and the Politics aspect of PPE both with their preparation for any pre-interview tests and practice for their interviews. All of them have gone on to be offered interviews at the colleges they applied to.
I have some experience in tutoring Maths to GCSE and to A Level as well as helping gifted students of all ages to expand their ability.
I have also tutored the Sciences up to GCSE and helped struggling students to cement their understanding of the underlying principles to then build up to some of the more complex mechanics.
