My Passion & How I Inspire

My main passion is teaching. It began when I noticed the impact that a good teacher could have on a student. From a career focused on facilitating play-based services, seeing learners gain confidence in their knowledge, talents, and abilities, is an inspiration for me.

I enjoy finding ways to connect with students and enhance their learning landscape. If that means listening to their favorite music or watching a film as long as it enables me to provide examples that make sense to the learner, then my experience tells me student inspiration is nurtured, nourished and sustained.

My Experience

I started teaching following a successful career working with children and young people. I quickly found ways to integrate my experience of play-based learning into my teaching practice. As I was learning, finding new ways to deliver lessons that met the needs of the learner became my mission. So began my love of teaching.

For the next 10 years, I continued to develop my craft in both private sector training companies and colleges before moving into Higher Education to become a Senior Lecturer.

As a Senior Lecturer in Higher Education within a Business School, my passion for learning and enhancing the student experience continues to drive me. It led to the creation of a new approach to teaching and learning that I have called Enhancing the Learning Landscape. I now have over 20 years of experience in applying this to teaching subjects relating to business management, leadership, and human resource management.

I have applied this approach in the UK, countries in West Africa and the United Arab Emirates to enable students to link real-world experiences to practice in an academically informed way. As a result, I connected the various people, places, and ideas encountered along the way and created an international network. This global network now facilitates work placements as well as access to dissertation projects for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Together, these experiences now enable me to offer career guidance and support in a way that matches learner aspirations and experiences to the opportunities within their learning landscape.
