I ran a tutoring programme for secondary school students while I was at university in New Zealand, which deepened my interest in education and tutoring. I was also a University Tutor for Political Philosophy, and tutored English to secondary school students. After graduating from my degree in Politics, I moved to England to do Teach First as a Primary School Teacher.
In my first year of teaching, I had an amazing Year 4 class, who had large personalities and a huge variety of interests. By the end of that year, my teaching was rated Outstanding during lesson observations, and all students progressed towards their goals. For my second year, I taught a delightful Year 2 class, including new students who spoke no English and students who could read fluently. In all my lesson observations that year, my teaching was rated outstanding, because of my engaging approach that meant all students were making progress. My class cheered when they had to sit their SATs, because I had used an approach in my teaching where they were proud of what they had learned.
