My Passion & How I Inspire

My approach to tuition is to make sure I have a good rapport with my student. Once I finish my initial assessment of them to figure out their strengths and weaknesses, I aim to make them feel at ease so in the lesson they are completely comfortable with interacting with me and not afraid to ask any questions. Sometimes having a tutor you can get along with well can make or break a student’s progress.

With parents, I aim to be as transparent as possible and put effort to make sure they are kept well in the loop regarding their child's progress and what we went through each session - including what they excelled at and what they struggled in - which is why I like to emphasise detail in my lesson reports. This approach allows parents to be aware of the reality as best as possible, giving peace of mind and a good basis off making decisions regarding their child. Another aspect is that I like to be efficient, so if possible I stress to parents that I’d like to receive issued homework back before the next lesson so it can be marked with proper feedback given – instead of spending time going through the homework during the lesson.

My Experience

With about 7 years active experience, I have tutored math levels from 11+ up to and including A-levels. This would include a range of activities including:

• Exam preparation

• Prepped ‘short notice’ 11+ students (i.e. around 2 months before exam)

• Using Excel to observe and visualise student performance targeting weaknesses and locate strengths

• Weekly reporting to parents

• Exam preparation for Primary School Teachers in-training

• Preparing and intellectually reinforcing students for coming examinations

• Actively designed and tailored sessions

• Tracking and analysing student progress

• Dispatching appropriate homework

• Tutored at IGCSE level

• Guided graduates through Numerical Psychometric tests

I am also a maths teacher at a high-achieving independent school - teaching year 7 to 11. Duties involve:

• Curriculum planning - short term, medium term and long term.

• Update, develop and review Maths scheme of works.

• Uphold the structures within the school including behaviour management system and discipline to ensure consistency of approach.

• Build up appropriate resources and materials for delivering Maths.

• Develop and use teaching methods appropriate for pupils and pupils with complex and complicated needs.

• Differentiate accordingly to meet pupil needs.

• Organise classroom appropriately for different pupil groups.

Fun fact

I'm a big fan of good food. If I'm cooking a dish that requires cheese, and I have some in stock but not necessarily the one I have in mind (even though similar); I will take the time to go out and make sure I get that specific one. My food must be perfect!
