My Passion & How I Inspire

The essence of private tuition is acknowledging that each student is unique and thus that they require individual and tailored help. I therefore from the outset try to get to know each student to identify not only their problem areas, but also their personal interests. Recognition of a student’s interests and strengths allows me to then personalise and simplify problems in a way that each student will find most helpful. As well as focusing upon the technical aspects of any subject such as practice exam questions, essay structure and planning, I also believe it is important to engage students through debates and discussions. I use this technique as students often find it easier to express their opinions in spoken form before committing them into a formal written structure. I will frequently give positive and constructive feedback and critique to ensure not only that the student progresses, but importantly that they also gain confidence in their subject at the same time.

My Experience

I have had experience designing and implementing educational workshops aimed at children from 5 to 16. These mainly consisted of interactive history workshops covering a range of periods. A central objective of these workshops was to link their content to the National Curriculum.

I have also previously been a National Trust Room Guide and Costumed Historical Interpreter. These roles gave me experience in making the past accessible and fun, both for children and adults.
