I encourage students to think both critically and creatively about a text or subject matter by combining textual analysis with student autonomy. One the one hand, this means setting lesson objectives that can be worked towards in a rewarding fashion. One the other, this means engaging with students very much on a equal basis - I strongly believe in encouraging students to develop their own reflections and interpretations about a text and its wider contextual significance, lending them increased confidence in their ability to stimulate ideas, a broad understanding of the subject matter, and, most importantly, an interest in the subject.
