At the core of my approach to private tuition is the recognition that every individual is different. I believe it is crucial to adapt, sometimes radically, the tuition styles and techniques I am confident in to the specific needs to the tutee in question. In the majority or cases the same underlying principles of teaching apply however I believe their delivery should be tailored for each individual. I also believe it is the responsibility of the tutor to be highly observant and, where they exist, recognise any further non teaching related barriers to learning. Ultimately my goal as a tutor is to ensure the tutee engages positively with the subject matter, understands it and hopefully sees the intrinsic value of the subject.
I have two years tutoring experience within the Geography department at Rhodes University to both small groups and to individual students requiring additional support. During the same period I was responsible for running a series of practices for first and second year undergraduates again within the Geography department.
