I help my students to feel more confident about what they are doing, whether it’s writing, analysing or figuring out the best way to perform in exams because I understand in detail where that confidence comes from and how it can make us perform much better than we think we can.

I keep communications open so students can email me with queries or work in progress at any time.
I focus on getting to know where students feel difficulty so we can devise effective and enjoyable ways to improve and master that difficulty.
English can help in so many other areas too, and I often see that where a student improves writing English essays, say, they improve their essay writing (and often comprehension) in other subjects too.
I have tutored privately for more than five years, to more than 150 students in ages ranging from 7 to 70 (this last being a Reverend who wanted help writing his sermons!)

Most of my students are working towards exams and I have in-depth knowledge of the AQA and OCR boards, as well as the new 11+ and the IELTS and Cambridge exam system.
I have an MA and BA (Hons) in English Literature and Language from the University of Sussex
3 A-Levels from City of London School: English (A), Maths (A), French (B)
“Excellent and friendly. I really like Dan - honest, clever, kind. I've known him about five years now as he taught my daughter Rebecca twice - once for her GCSEs and then again during her time at uni. It didn't seem to matter what she was studying, he helped her get to grips with it and feel a lot more confident! Invaluable. I can recommend him very highly.”
Nick L. English Language (GCSE). Outcome: “better marks, more confidence”
“Daniel was reliable, built up Amy's confidence, got her interested in the books and we were really pleased with how the exams went.”
Dan W. English Literature (GCSE) Outcome: Amy got an A - had been predicted a B
“Daniel has been extremely encouraging and positive in his tutoring with my 13 year old son and I believe his school work has improved as a result . Daniel is keen to discuss the areas we feel he should be focussing on, but he also is keen to find subjects which will keep my son engaged. I was impressed when he went through my son's book shelves with him so he could get a sense of what makes him tick. I would definitely recommend Daniel.”
Susie C. Subject: English. Outcome: ongoing course work
I’m the published author of two books (a novel and a travel guide), and I play the saxophone!
