I approach tutoring with a calm and measured approach. I like to understand the clients needs in advance of meeting so I can fully prepare and understand the topic beforehand. This results in a stress-free environment where the client can feel confident in my subject knowledge and I feel happy answering any questions posed.
While preparing students for examinations I like to strictly tailor my lessons to the curriculum and marking schemes. This approach allows my clients to achieve their optimal results and go into stressful exam periods feeling calm and prepared. I was fortunate to achieve the best A level results in my school, which highlights the success of this approach to study.
My educational background has greatly influenced my tutoring style and capabilities. My higher education studies culminated in extensive work on the diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant TB. While the topics covered at University are complex and intricate, in order to achieve good grades, excellent fluency in written work and a mastery of basic topics is required. My enthusiasm and passion for science is infectious, and this, coupled with my overall knowledge makes the tutoring sessions I give informative and enjoyable.
I have previously tutored pupils in Science at Derby Grammar School (aged 9-12), helping underachieving students realise their potential and advancing the knowledge of high achieving students beyond the curriculum.
During University I have mentored and tutored first year Biological Sciences undergraduates, helping with some of the complex topics covered at university. Topics covered include metabolism, developmental biology, biochemical processes and genetics.
Finally, I have extensive experience helping both overseas and home-nations students with university applications. This includes personal statements for bachelors and masters courses and examining any accompanying work (presentations and essays). My knowledge on these subjects was gained through successful applications for both my bachelors and masters degrees at University College London, ranked 5th in the world in the QS world rankings (2015).
