My Passion & How I Inspire

I like to get to know my students so I can understand what their instinctive talents are and what they want to gain from working with me. I have a friendly and relaxed approach and each tutorial will respond to an agreed lesson plan but also what my student requires from each lesson. I work with students of all ages from 16 – 40 and I tailor each session to suit them. I have taught students from all over the world and varying language abilities so I have evolved great communication skills and differing teaching methods to accommodate them.

I teach all areas of fashion from design, collection building, pattern cutting/garment construction and portfolio preparation for further/higher education and MA level. I pride myself on always getting the best from my student’s, my aim is to build their design confidence and ability to communicate through their creative work.

My Experience

I am a professional fashion designer and tutor, I run my own fashion brand and I teach fashion Central Saint Martin’s school of Art and Design (CSM). I have worked in the fashion industry since 2000 and taught fashion design for more than 6 years. I have an extensive career history working for some of London’s most exciting independent brands as well as some of its most renowned designers, including Alexander McQueen and Michiko Koshino.

I have run my own fashion brands for the past 8 years so I have first hand experience of how to work in the fashion industry, I have participated in London Fashion Week on several occasions and gained a great following within the fashion press. My brands have gained their greatest achievements in Japan and China where my international selling agent represents the brands.

My extensive experience in the fashion industry feeds directly into my tutoring practice and allows me to educate my students to an industry standard.

My Reviews

'Over the past few months I have worked with Chris to create works for my university portfolio. What’s great about Chris’ approach is that he is able to quickly pick up on your strengths and weaknesses and come up with projects, which challenge your creative thought process and encourage you to experiment with different styles and mediums. Throughout every project we had detailed discussions which were useful in facilitating my decision making process. Chris’ wealth of knowledge of the arts and fashion scene combined with his ability to engage with students allows him to draw out the best in your work. He has a unique ability to truly understand his students and carefully tailor his approach to allow you to push yourself and step outside of your comfort zone. He has helped me to discover my trademark style of drawing and printmaking. Chris is a very motivating and inspiring person who throughout this process has inspired me to create better work.' - Gabriella.

My name is Vital Z’Brun and I come from Switzerland, Last summer I took a Fashion Design course in London and that is where I met Chris he was my teacher. I really liked him and his way of teaching, he helped me to make progress as a design student. I very much admire his work as a designer and therefore he became my ideal. Chris inspired me to develop my own projects. Now he is my tutor Via skype he guides me and supervises my work. I have already learned a lot from Chris and I highly recommend him as a tutor.

My Video Introduction

Fun fact

I love to take on a new challenge and Last year I joined an all male choir with 250 members, after 3 months of singing we performed on Channel 4 and at London’s Southbank Centre. My latest challenge is learning Spanish!
