My Passion & How I Inspire

I believe that a tutor’s job goes far beyond teaching the relevant material to students. It is also the tutor’s job to empower the student to achieve their full potential. However, this cannot be achieved in small amount of time tutors see students each week. This is why I strive to teach my students how to be exceptional, independent learners. I achieve this by teaching them good study technique, which they can practice outside of formal teaching. However, a student with the best study technique in the world will not reach their goals without a genuine passion for their subjects. I have seen many students who are disengaged with their schoolwork, simply because they do not see the purpose of their teachings. I show students how their seemingly abstract lessons and material can be applied to the real world, especially in the areas they have hobbies or are interested in. This allows them to actively engage in topics and seek out information, therefore becoming proactive learners. This is a quality essential for success in both further education and in life in general.

I also understand that some students are worried by the amount of work they have to do, and therefore the amount of stress they can be under; a problem that is rapidly growing among young people. This is why I show students how to work efficiently so they may actually spend less time working whilst optimising their results. I also encourage them to work healthily by taking regular breaks and not “cramming”, but spacing out and revisiting their work. This spreading out and regularly revising of work has been scientifically proven to increase information retention. By combining all these techniques I know students can go on to achieve greatness and greatly enjoy their future endeavors, whatever they may be.

My Experience

I have spent the last three years working as a part-time private tutor for students of different ages and levels, accumulating over 1000 hours of experience. I have extensive experience tutoring GCSE Science and Maths (AQA, Edexcel and OCR) and A Level Biology and Maths (AQA, Edexcel and OCR). During this time I have helped students gain entrance to some of the best schools and universities in England, including St Pauls and Oxford University respectively.

I have also tutored as part of residentials around the UK, helping students prepare for all of their GCSEs and A Levels, including History and Geography. For my residentials, I help students to set up a schedule for my time there, and beyond, as well as working on methods of revision tailored to the individual student so they can achieve the best possible grades.

Outside of traditional tutoring, I have also helped devise and perform workshops for primary schools on themes such as friendship, trust and tolerance, and for second schools on themes such as consent and drug use.

Whilst still at school, I helped to run a gifted and talented group, teaching 8-10 year olds in more advanced maths skills. I was also an assistant to an Acting/Singing/Dancing teacher during my summers, for 4 years.
