My Passion & How I Inspire

Many students who end up seeking the help of private tutors have not been able to engage with their subject, despite being more than intelligent enough to do well. This is often due to how they have been taught. Who teaches you and how they do it is so important – we all fondly remember the best teachers we had at school, and how they brought their subjects to life.

I am a friendly and approachable tutor who will always make my lessons as engaging and enjoyable as possible. Each student will be different and have their own needs and preferences. Through one-on-one tuition, I can personalise my lessons so that the student gets the very most out of them and actually enjoys what they are doing. That enjoyment is the key to learning.

As someone who has worked as a commercial lawyer at a high level, I also take a very professional approach to my lessons and when dealing with the parents of my younger students.

My Experience

I have several years' experience of tutoring particularly undergraduate and postgraduate students in a range of social science subjects. Previously, this focused in particular on Law, given my professional background; however, my tutoring focus is now on IR and politics. I also have experience assisting students with writing and English-language skills, as well as with academic and professional applications.

I have received consistently positive feedback from my tutees. In some cases, tutees' grades have improved from a 'failing' grade up to a 'distinction' level grade following my tuition.

Subjects That I Teach

  • History
  • International Relations
  • Politics

My Qualifications

I am currently a postgraduate researcher at the LSE's Department of International Relations (IR) - one of the world's leading universities for this subject. As part of my PhD, I have also been awarded ESRC funding, which is highly prestigious (only two awards are made by the department each year). While my specialism is in the politics and IR of East Asia, my broad training and experience mean that I have expertise in a range of IR and political theory, as well as regional expertise in the UK, Europe, US etc.

Previously I obtained a first-class undergraduate degree from Cambridge (Trinity College), and a distinction-grade master's degree from SOAS, University of London. My writing has been published in both academic and journalistic sources.

Between my undergraduate and master's degree, I trained as a lawyer and worked for three years at the top international firm Slaughter and May. Ultimately, however, I decided that a career in commercial law was not for me, and returned to university to pursue a career in academia and teaching.

Fun fact

I own one twentieth of a racehorse called Cadeau George! He’s not the exactly the best racehorse ever, but we love him nonetheless, and hugely enjoy going to see him race.
