My Passion & How I Inspire

Everyone is different, and so every tutoring session needs to be tailored to the requirements and personality of the student.  It is also important, of course, to have a clear sense of the structure of the course being studied and the expectations of assessors or examiners.  I aim to encourage students to be confident, to understand their weaknesses, to build on their strengths, to critically engage with their progress and to think out loud.  The great thing about one-to-one tuition is that it allows for a really productive rapport to develop between tutor and tutee.

My Experience

My life as an academic has followed a fairly interdisciplinary course, and my teaching experience reflects this.  I have a first class BA in the History of Art, an MA in Gender Studies and a PhD in History. I have recently published my first monograph with Routledge.   It is based on my PhD thesis and entitled 'A History of Euphoria: The Perception and Misperception of Health and Well-Being.' I have tutored in English Literature and History from GCSE through to undergraduate level, supervised MA dissertations in History and Psychology, with excellent results, and I have taught Research Methods, including writing skills, to postgraduate students.  I would be happy to provide tuition to students in English Literature and History and in essay and dissertation writing in any discipline.
