It was my Mathematics and Science teachers who inspired me to study engineering at university and make significant progress in that field for over 15 years. During that time I taught on a voluntary basis for over 7 years at a local after-school club as a means of giving something back to the local community. From this experience, I realised how much of a positive impact I could have as an inspiring teacher on the personal and academic development of my students. This sense of fulfilment and satisfaction was enough justification to make a radical career change and leave an extremely well-paid profession to qualify as a teacher. Since then, I have had many opportunities to help students develop their confidence and love for learning and ultimately excel in what I teach them by instilling a growth mindset. The outcome from every student I have tutored always reassures me that I made the right choice. I see students as individuals with great potential with the ability to excel in anything if they believe in themselves and taught the appropriate skills. I see myself as being the catalyst in bringing about that change in mindset.
As a fully qualified QTS teacher and NCFE Level 5 TESOl teacher I have been teaching in main stream and independent schools for over 5 years in primary, secondary and higher education settings. Before entering into the teaching profession I worked as an engineer in the oil and gas industry in the Gulf which required me to service water injection wells in the desert. During one of the surveys I got chased by a scorpion and a dung beatle. Have you ever seen a dung beetle - they grow up to 1 and a half inches. Imagine one of those flying towards you!
