The rapport that can be built in a one-on-one session makes private tuition a unique and powerful way of engaging with a subject. I take great enjoyment in discovering the strengths and character of a student, and developing methods of learning that can suit their needs. In my experience this approach yields the best results; creating an atmosphere that ensures a student doesn’t dread a session, but looks forward to it as a means of developing their understanding and enjoyment of a subject, in an environment that encourages conversation and builds curiosity. I am extremely approachable, and I find that fostering a comfortable environment allows us to attack the difficult topics in a more relaxed way. My aim to to equip learners with confidence and share some of my broad knowledge and passion for the classical world.
I have been teaching Classical subjects up to university level as a private tutor and in the classroom for three years. I have had a high level success with my tutoring students, with a number exceeding the score they were aiming for in public examinations.
In 2017 I joined Dulwich College as a teacher of Classics (maternity cover), and after a good performance my term’s stay was extended a further year. My experience in the classroom has provided me with a strong ability to demonstrate and explain in a flexible way, and a precise understanding of the syllabus requirements of Latin and Ancient Greek at Common Entrance, GCSE and A-Level (ISEB, OCR, Pre-U).
At the school, as well as running the Lower School Classics Society, I took a number of seminars for potential Oxbridge applicants, and interviewed candidates from a variety of schools in preparation for their applications.
I also work as a volunteer tutor and mentor in schools in South East London.
I attended Alleyn’s School, where I served as Vice School Captain and scored highly in my A-Levels (3A*s), dropping only one mark in Latin. I went on to study Classics at King’s College Cambridge, where I achieved a first-class grade in every year of my degree, and was rewarded an academic scholarship. In my final year I received the Jasper Ridley prize for Greek and Music, for my varied contribution to the college.
I also received a distinction in my ATCL Saxophone diploma examination.
I have been on a tour of the UK and USA with a sketch comedy show.
