As a tutor, I wanted to ensure that I could create a warm, friendly and engaging environment for students so that I could easily identify gaps in their knowledge and motivate them to think independently. I believe one of the most successful ways of doing this is by being personal, relatable, using positive reinforcement and encouragement when things go well or even when they go wrong. Additionally, I love to use humour of course appropriately to really connect with students and breakdown any walls to help our sessions from being personal and integrated. After all, tutoring is different from being in a school as it relies on the session being personalized and tailored to the student. I know as a student and as a tutor, if I can create an environment like this, it would make students look forward to tutoring and want to work through their problems. Pulling from my experiences revising for exams and tutoring, I understand the importance of always looking at the syllabus and past paper questions to keep the focus of our knowledge relevant.
