I try as much as possible to use real world examples and context in both Science and Maths to help pupils to engage with complex concepts. I often use creative tasks and modelling alongside exam question practice, to develop pupils' retention of key topics.
I always emphasise the benefits of good revision and exam techniques and use constant questioning to ensure pupils understand the material we are covering, rather than simply memorising.
After university, I gained a place on the Teach First graduate programme, teaching science for two years in a central London academy. Whilst there, I taught pupils aged 11-18, including GCSE in all sciences and A level Biology. I was regularly graded āoutstandingā in lesson observations and completed the Teach First course with Distinction. My lessons were praised for being creative, engaging and focussed around practical science.
I have extensive tutoring experience, having tutored in Scotland, Hertfordshire and London since 2011. I have taught pupils taking GCSEs and A level exams in all Sciences and Maths with AQA, Edexcel, WJEC and OCR and have extensive knowledge of curriculum and exam board requirements. My pupils have often achieved top grades in their exams and have received academic scholarships for their subsequent internal exam results.
Alongside my work as a tutor, I am a freelance professional singer and also teach singing and the violin. I have experience teaching individuals, as well as coaching larger groups of pupils in schools.
