I am a very encouraging tutor and I plan my lessons using a wide range of resources to engage my students. I use a child’s strengths to build up confidence in areas they are unsure about. I quickly establish their learning styles and adapt my lessons accordingly. I set aims and micro-aims, which means my students leave the lesson with a feeling of achievement and satisfaction.
My teaching career began during my year abroad at the University of Bristol, where I worked for the British Council as an English Language Assistant at two secondary schools in Austria. As well as leading classes of students I also conducted private tuition at one of the schools.
After I graduated I completed a second placement as an English Language Assistant at a secondary school in Switzerland. Here I worked with students to improve their spoken English skills and prepared classes for the FCE and CAE Cambridge examinations. During this year I also worked as an invigilator for IELTS examinations.
Following this I worked full time as a private tutor, online during the day and face-to-face in the evening. I tutored primary school students in English and maths, secondary school students in English as a Foreign Language and I led conversation classes for adults. After half a year, I started to work part-time at a nursery, teaching the children English through structured play. I continued to tutor in the evening and I now have a total of four years’ tutoring experience as well as four years’ experience working in educational institutes.
I am currently studying Psychodynamics of Human Development at Birkbeck, University of London. This is a course which covers child development and psychoanalytic theory. It is designed to help those working with children to better understand and support their needs.
In 2014 I graduated from the University of Bristol with a 2:1 in German and Russian.
I achieved excellent A Levels grades at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College: German A*, French A, Mathematics A.
I can speak five languages!
