My Passion & How I Inspire

I see tuition for arts subjects as different from maths or sciences; there’s no right or wrong answer, and tuition should not be about a tutor telling you how to do something – it just won’t work. Once you understand an area of study – whether it’s a novel, a poem, a historical controversy – you develop genuine opinions, from which you can build arguments. Recognising the best way to structure an essay comes from these arguments – my approach to tutoring is through structured discussion of texts and ideas, to help you develop your own ideas and defend them through arguments.

I work with my students to find the best way for them to tackle essays – I’m flexible with my time and my approach, and will happily adapt lesson plans around any areas of difficulty.

I ensure that I am fully up to date with all set texts and criticisms for any subjects that I commit to tutor, and will include reading recommendations and research starters as part of the tutoring sessions I provide.
