My Experience

I am an associate at an international law firm in London. My work focuses on litigation, international arbitration, public international law and European Union law.  I have been tutoring for the past several years and regularly supervise work experience students at my firm.

Before reading Law at the University of Cambridge, I spent a year volunteering at the Baha’i World Centre in Haifa, Israel. Following my undergraduate studies, I pursued my Masters at the University of Oxford.  Thereafter, I worked at Harvard Law School as a Visiting Researcher before beginning my legal practice in London.

“I was introduced to Nabil through Tavistock Tutors at a time when I needed someone to assist me in my preparations for my admissions to study Law at the University of Cambridge; this consisted of two interviews and an admissions assessment.
From the very first session, I was immediately impressed with Nabil’s methods of stretching my abilities and highlighting areas of improvement. Nobody enjoys receiving criticism but Nabil’s suggestions were clear, concise and proved to be accurate. They helped me understand my weaknesses and turn them into strengths. For example, Nabil would film me giving presentations on various topics every session and would then give me feedback to improve each time. By the last session, there had been drastic progress in my ability to present in a clear, understandable and interesting manner – this proved to be helpful for my interview.
Of course, none of this is a guarantee of success and you have to be prepared to do the work. However, sometimes the hardest thing is knowing where to invest your time and effort. As much as I wanted to be admitted into the University of Cambridge, it was very difficult for me to know where to start. Nabil’s involvement meant I was much better able to cope with interview situations as I developed effective ways of thinking and speaking under pressure and gained advice from someone who had studied at the University of Cambridge themselves.
It is also important to note that Nabil’s help was not only useful for my admissions to Cambridge but actually proved to be transferrable to my ‘A’-Levels and wider studies. I am now able to write essays that are clear yet concise due to a structure that Nabil has taught me. Furthermore, my experiences will definitely be useful for future job interviews and just generally being able to give presentations (an invaluable life skill). These sessions were very enjoyable. I found the time flying by and in fact, they helped me confirm my interest in studying law because I found these sessions so fun and interesting. I now keep Nabil updated on my studies and pursuit of a career in law; I started off with a mentor and left with a friend.
I have now been offered a place to read law at the University of Cambridge. Considering there were 1,400 applications with only 250 offers, this is a great achievement and I am adamant that I would not have been able to achieve this without my work with Nabil. I am very grateful to Nabil and would recommend this experience highly.” – Ali

My Approach to Private Tuition

Three simple steps: (1) work with the student to understand where they are at, including an assessment of strengths and weaknesses; (2) together identify one or more goals; and (3) devise a plan of how to get there.  All the while not forgetting to have fun along the way!

Fun fact

I love chess (not sure if that’s fun but it’s a fact!)
