My Experience

I have taught at a range of age levels.  I have taught 7/8 year olds either preparing for entrance exams for Kings College Wimbledon or a recently relocated student who needed help catching up with a new syllabus. I have taught English GCSE on the AQA Board.  I have taught English Literature on both the AQA and OCR Boards.  I have taught professional actors who need help with an upcoming audition.

“the work he did really helped her. Increasing her confidence by testing her knowledge of the subject”
“In my daughter’s words, he was easy to get along with and understand, enthusiastic, passionate and very encouraging”
“Increasing her confidence by testing her knowledge of the subject, helping her understand historical context and to look at alternative views on the texts. In addition Anna really appreciated the discussion based approach”
“I would add that Joe clearly loved his subject, was extremely well read and was also patient, kind, reliable and adaptable: in short a thoroughly good teacher”
“I would highly recommend Joe as a tutor”
“Honestly thank you very much for your help I really enjoyed our sessions you exposed me to lots of interesting texts!”

My Approach to Private Tuition

As I have taught over a range of ages I tend to make my tuition specifically tailored to the needs of each individual client. This can either mean a highly structured specifically goal based tuition course, or a flexible discussion based learning process. The central importance should be an emphasis on making the subject relevant, engaging and fun for the student, as without their total engagement it is difficult to achieve excellent results.
