My Passion & How I Inspire

I love the subjects I teach, so much so that I will become a full-time history teacher from September 2017. My favourite part about tutoring is helping students to find what it is about their given subjects that really gets them ticking. It is not necessarily about teaching skills but providing the confidence and the insights to let students truly develop in their academic career. My tutoring sessions are focused but flexible, for every student is different. I plan a combination of skills-based work and discussion to really allow each student to understand not only what they are learning, but why they are learning it, laying the foundations for their learning development in the future.

Most importantly, my tutoring style is interesting and fun; no two sessions will be the same. For me, history is as much about magic and science as it is about kings, queens and battles (I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on the changing interpretations of a ghost story!). Politics covers analyses of current affairs as well as the quest for change; I focused specifically on international human rights norms throughout my masters. English is perhaps the most versatile of all. In our tutoring sessions we can range from analysing Chaucer and Shakespeare, to contemporary African and Latin American poetry, to creative storytelling through the lens of a child, world-leader or even an animal. The endless possibilities for each students development path fuels my passion for teaching.
