Instead of dictating answers to students, my strategy is help students to solve problems themselves. I believe that people rarely forget theorems and concepts which they themselves have derived. Of course I won’t insist on this the day before an exam, at which point a student might reasonably want to sacrifice some depth of understanding in order to cover a broader range of material.
