I started my musical journey taking piano lessons at school. As I was learning, the lessons became the highlight of my week. I just loved making music. This continued when I started singing lessons and then started to sing with the school choir, which progressed to the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, then a degree, international debut with Latvian National Opera and now my profession. From half an hour once a week at the age of 5 to full time, it’s an incredible journey.
In addition to performing oratorios and operatic roles such as Despina and Papagena, I have sung at the Royal Albert Hall, recorded at Abbey Road for Channel 4 and also appeared on Songs of Praise with Andrea Bocelli and Katherine Jenkins. Having a professional singing career and performing regularly allows me to understand how to help my students best with the performance side of singing, such as nerves, anxiety, stagecraft and expression.
In my teaching career, as well as my private students, I currently work with the London Youth Choir, the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and previously the Eton Choral Courses. This ensures that all my teaching is up to regional and national standards. I have also successfully tutored the Whitgift choral scholarship application.

My Approach to Private Tuition
I love music and I love teaching music: it is my absolute passion. Teaching music consists of two halves: form and function. Form is the art and the emotional performance. Function is the academia and theory behind it, the building blocks of music. It is essential to have an excellent understanding of both sides of the musical coin. In my work auditioning applicants for the London Youth Choir, I see many students who engage with the music but who lack the academic understanding that will enable them to progress. When teaching, I ensure the students have fun and engage with the music on an academic level as well as an artistic one. We work on performance, interpretation of text, sight reading, aural training and theory. I weave these approaches together, to make sure that the students are well-rounded musicians and not simply children or people who like to sing.
