I began my teaching career in the United States, working towards a solid foundation in pedagogical approaches to middle-school-aged students, and crafting a laugh and learn philosophy which has formed the underpinning of all my professional work since then.
After six years teaching English & Language Arts in several schools in the United States, I left the US to earn a Masters degree in Early Modern Literature, focusing on the relationship between theatre and popular culture in early 17th century England. Since then, I have remained in England, teaching American Advanced Placement curricula to students headed to elite universities in the UK as well as the US. I know the pressure students feel under so many demands on their time, and have always worked to make the sometimes onerous study of literature fun by tying it to topics and concepts students already enjoy, and making the language come alive through a variety of different means. After 13 years teaching English Literature & Language Arts in American and UK secondary schools, I know the material students need to know, the exams they need to take, and can serve as an entertaining and demanding guide through the ups and downs of the educational process. I work well with students of all ability, and look forward to working with you to help achieve your academic and personal goals.

My Approach to Private Tuition
Tutoring is about finding what works to support student achievement on an individual level. By getting to know my students in a one-on-one setting and employing a variety of pedagogical approaches to support their learning, we can develop specific skills and techniques to achieve short term goals as well as make school more enjoyable in the long term. With a focused approach on what interests each individual student, we can work together to ensure students remain engaged with their studies, positive about their progress, and more capable moving forward. Whether I am supporting students through specific challenges in their academic work, helping guide them through difficult application processes, or working to support foundational skill development in struggling students, I am happiest and most proud seeing my students achieve their goals and enjoy themselves in the process.
Prior to teaching, I toured the US with a band playing drums (though I wont embarrass myself by saying which band), and I continue to play international competitive Ultimate Frisbee with London teams.
